This effect may be seen just before or after totality, when a tiny fragment of the solar disc seems to flare out for a few seconds. The solar corona is visible as a white halo around the disc of the Moon as it covers the Sun in the sky. The corona is part of the atmosphere of the Sun, usually obscured by glare from Sun s surface.
